Longing for Fatherly recognition

I watched series 2 of Night Manager and my latest crush shifted from the Korean actor Kang Tae-oh to Mexican actor Diego Calva. His role was Teddy, another son of evil arms dealer, Roper. He had been abandoned in a monastery, idealising his father who rolled up once a year in a massive SUV. He was working for his father, desperate for his approval and recognition. His belief that his father cared for him is shattered and then exploited by the hero, Tom Hiddleston.  I lost all interest in what happened to the actual hero and agonised about the fate of Teddy. No spoilers here but it all ends badly (especially for Teddy) and I was gutted.

I realised I was hugely identifying with the Teddy character, I could see myself as that child waiting desperately for a glimpse of my glamorous father and that longing for approval and fatherly like care that the hero, Tom was able to tap into and use. There was also a whole homo erotic thing going on between Teddy and Tom but I thought it was more about unrequited love than lust.

I thought the actual Series 2 of Night Manager was overall rubbish but I would watch Diego Calva in anything!
